Here Comes the Bride
Here comes the Bride!
It’s wedding planning season folks. And oh, the details!
Ask anyone even remotely connected to a pending wedding, and the first thing you will encounter is an overwhelming feeling of … “the time crunch!” So much to do, so little time. The venue, the flowers, the DRESS, the date, the guest list, the menu, the music….it just doesn’t stop.
And don’t forget those Wedding Favors.
Couples want to share their love and gratitude with their guests. These days, a thoughtful favor is the perfect vehicle. Jules and I thought we’d offer our ideas on this relativley small but important item. An item that will garentee a touching moment to each of your guests when joined with the words…
“Thanks so much for being here today.”
(Cue the theme song from Princess Bride.)
The wedding favor has actually been “a thing” for a very long time. Items as simple as sprigs of garden herbs tied with hemp have been gifted to guests since way back when. (Hmm, a bunch of garden herb’s…that’s a good idea!)
These days wedding favors run the gambit. Packets of seeds, private labeled matchboxes (private labeled anything for that matter) candies, tiny jars of honey, potted plants…and on, and on. The question is, do you make them yourself (who has time?) or do you buy them? And how much should you spend…?
UGH! (Good feeling gone…)
It’s ok, we’ve got this! Here comes our most important suggestion…start with making your gifts sustainable. Honestly, NO ONE wants another shot glass with YOUR wedding date printed on it! (…those garden herbs are sounding pretty cool…) So dream up a gift that is usable, within your budget, small and in keeping with your theme. And by all means, make them if you have time…although, time IS of the essence!
Here are some points to consider:
-Budget 3-5% of your over all wedding budget toward favors.
-Pick something that represents you and your partner.
-Order ahead so that you receive your gifts at least one month before your date. (Unless perishable)
-Figure out AHEAD of time how you will disperse your gifts. (You really don’t want to find out that all your gifts were left behind at the end of the night!) This last point is critical. Many a gift has been left on the table because the guests we’re having too much fun by the end of the night. Consider these options: Set a special table by the exit with signage that says: “Thank you for coming, please enjoy these gifts with our love.”, plan to stroll around to each table personally giving them out with your partner, arrange them at each place setting and make them part of your décor, or, appoint the dispersal to your bridesmaids during dinner.
